Many Montgomery County Public Schools will see new principals next school year.
The Montgomery County Board of Education last week made principal appointments that will mean changes at Rockville and Northwood high schools and several elementary schools countywide.
Rockville High will need a new principal, as Debra Munk, the current principal there, was appointed as a consulting principal for the school system’s office of human resources and development.
Munk has worked for the school for eight years. She recently applied for a spot as superintendent of Ashland School District in Ashland, Ore., but later withdrew her application.
Takoma Park Middle School will also have an open spot on top, as Mildred L. Charley-Greene will become the principal of Northwood High in Silver Spring. Charley-Greene has worked for the school system for 14 years. Mark Kelsch has been acting principal at Northwood, after the departure this year of Principal Henry R. Johnson.
Earle B. Wood Middle School in Rockville will have a new principal next year, as current Principal Eugenia S. Dawson was appointed as director of Leadership Team Development for the school system.
Mary E. Bliss, who is currently acting principal at Farmland Elementary School in Rockville, was appointed as the school’s principal. Bliss has worked for the school system for 19 years.
Rachel C. DuBois, who is currently acting principal of Piney Branch Elementary School in Takoma Park, was appointed as the school’s principal. DuBois has worked for the school system for 13 years.
Belmont Elementary School in Olney has an open spot for a principal, as the school’s Principal Peter H. Bray is moving to Broad Acres Elementary School in Silver Spring. Bray has worked for the school system for 13 years.
Jennifer S. Lane will be principal at Westbrook Elementary School in Bethesda, replacing current Principal Rebecca A. Jones. Lane is currently an assistant principal at Greenwood Elementary School in Brookeville and has worked for the school system for 18 years.
Brent T. Mascott will be principal at DuFief Elementary School in Gaithersburg, replacing an acting principal there. Mascott is currently a principal intern at Maryvale Elementary School in Rockville and has worked for the school system for 15 years.
Carole E. Rawlison will be principal at Harmony Hills Elementary School in Silver Spring, replacing current Principal Robin Weaver. Rawlison has worked for the school system for 13 years and is currently a principal intern at Arcola Elementary in Wheaton.
Board of Education President Christopher S. Barclay said that he recognizes it is hard for these home communities to lose their current principals.
Superintendent Joshua P. Starr said that he recognizes that with these appointments come some uncertainty and anxiety at school communities.
With the amount of professional development offered to aspiring principals and principals moving posts, Starr assured the community that all would be well.
“Congratulations to everybody,” he said.
