Bethesda native and Florida Atlantic University senior closer Hugh Adams has been named to the midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List by the National Baseball Collegiate Writers Association. He holds the Owls’ career record with 25 saves and is three saves shy of tying the Sun Belt Conference’s all-time record.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Hugh to be added to the list. We are very proud of him,” Owls coach John McCormack said.

This season, Adams ranks fourth nationally and leads the SBC with 12 saves — a key statistic in making the Owls a contender for the league’s regular-season championship. He has made 17 appearances and has a 2.29 earned run average. The latest appearance for Adams was a scoreless ninth inning in FAU’s 5-4 win over the University of Louisiana on April 20.

The right hander, who earned first-team All-South Central Region honors following the 2011 season, compiled a 4-2 record with a save and a 2.29 ERA for the Bethesda Big Train last summer. He attended St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.
