Prince George’s police have arrested two suspects in the murder of a Capitol Heights man who police and neighbors said had been walking home with his laundry when he was gunned down March 12.
The two suspects, 24-year-old Juan Alberto Ortiz-Orellana, of the 5000 block of Silver Hill Court, and 19-year-old Jorge Enrique Moreno-Aguilar, of the 6500 block of Grafton Street, both of District Heights, are accused of murdering Erick Amilicar Mendez-Orellana just steps from his home in Capitol Heights.
Police said Mendez-Orellana, 23, was found around 8:30 p.m. March 12 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike.
According to police, Ortiz-Orellana was arrested on unrelated immigration charges by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations agents April 18.
County police interviewed Ortiz-Orellana and he admitted his involvement in the slaying, according to the department.
Ortiz-Orellana’s testimony led county police officers to Moreno-Aguilar, who was arrested April 19, police said.
Defense attorneys for both suspects were not listed with the courts Monday, according to online county court records and both are being held in the county’s Department of Corrections.
Phone numbers for Ortiz-Orellana and Moreno-Aguilar could not be located.
