Cadet 2nd Lt. Austin Cirulli relinquished command of the Mount Airy Composite Squadron to Cadet 2nd Lt. Aaron Huie in a ceremony at the Mount Airy Senior Center on March 25.

Maj. Grace Stapf, director of the Civil Air Patrol Maryland Wing Cadet Programs, officiated the change of command which was hosted by Capt. Steve Weinhold. Several U.S. Air Force, CAP, and community leaders attended the event.

Huie has been in CAP for six years and has already made a significant impact on the squadron, according to a news release. He also a member of the award winning color guard.

“My goal for the squadron is to strengthen and keep alive what Mount Airy has been known for: having the passion to lead and achieve in all our squadron activities, from weekly meetings to national events,” Huie said.

Also during the ceremony, U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Sara Sullivan, a linguist from Fort Meade, presented Cadet Master Sgt. Keith Lohoefer with the Air Force Sergeants Association Squadron Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Award.

The Mount Airy Composite Squadron meets from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday at the Mount Airy Senior Center, 703 Ridge Road. For more information about the group go to www.mtairy-cap.org or call 301-829-3603.
