Montgomery County police identified Colleen Nicole Bell, 20, of the 19100 block of Highstream Drive in Germantown as the fatality in a car crash in Germantown early Saturday morning.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department press release, at approximately 2:31 a.m., officers from the 5th District and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the report of a serious collision on Mateny Road at Clopper Road in Germantown. Preliminary investigation revealed that a blue, 2004 Honda Civic was traveling north on Mateny Road. As the Honda entered the intersection of Mateny and Clopper roads, it collided with a Regency taxicab traveling east on Clopper Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda spun 180 degrees and traveled south on Mateny Road. It left the right side of the road and struck a tree. Bell succumbed to her injuries on the scene, according to the Montgomery County Police Department press release.

The driver of the cab, Mabeen Basharat, 31, of Steeple Court in Germantown, reported an injury but was not transported to the hospital.

The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
