A five-vehicle accident temporarily closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 270 in Germantown Tuesday night.

According to Montgomery County Police Officer Rebecca Innocenti, an unattended, unoperative vehicle was sitting in the far right lane near Exit 16, which connects to Father Hurley Boulevard. A second vehicle, driving straight toward the unattended vehicle, swerved into the next lane to avoid it.

The disruption caused a “chain reaction” accident that eventually involved a total of five vehicles.

Innocenti said police were called to the scene at 8:50 p.m.

There were no injuries or deaths, Innocenti said. The owner of the unattended vehicle had not yet been located.

Innocenti said no charges had been filed.
