A 3-year-old girl is in stable condition after falling four stories out of an apartment complex in Aspen Hill on Monday, Montgomery County police said. The child was taken to a local hospital shortly after police responded at around 9 a.m.

The girl was treated for serious injuries, according to police on the scene at the apartment in the 3800 block of Bel Pre Road. Foul play was not suspected, police said, adding that the girl’s injuries appeared to be internal.

The girl’s mother was at work when the accident occurred, police said.

Police did not provide names of the child or her mother.

Two adult family members were at the house when it happened, said Montgomery County Police spokesman Bob Ladany.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue took her to Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. She then was transferred to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C., according to a Holy Cross Hospital offical.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
