A Gaithersburg vocal coach is scheduled to stand trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court next month for sexually abusing one of his students.
Timothy M. Ballard, 47, of Goodport Lane in Gaithersburg, faces one count of sexual abuse against a minor and other related counts, court records show.
The events took place in the spring and late summer of 2008 in the basement studio of the house Ballard used to live in on Ramsdell Terrace, according to the Sept. 12, 2012, warrant issued for his arrest.
The victim, a boy who was then in eighth grade, came forward in June 2012, according to the warrant, which also said that the incidents first took place after the victim discussed his sexuality with Ballard one evening.
The victim confided to Ballard that he was unsure whether or not he was bisexual, according to the documents, and Ballard told the victim that he could help him “figure out who he was.”
The documents go on to say that Ballard then molested the victim.
The incidents occurred again a few months later that year, according to the documents.
The victim said that after the two incidents, Ballard approached him again three to four more times, but that he refused Ballard’s advances.
Ballard, reached by phone, directed calls to his attorney, Michael McAuliffe.
“He’s innocent,” McAuliffe said.
“He denies these incidents and we will be going to trial,” he said.
The trial is set for April 8.
