The Accokeek Foundation is looking for five new volunteers to assist in the production of its heirloom corn variety and Colonial Foodways Program for the 2013 season at National Colonial Farm.

The volunteers selected for heirloom corn production will work once or twice per week from April through October or November to help plant, tend, weed and harvest the farm’s Virginia Gourdseed Corn fields and colonial kitchen garden.

Volunteers for the Colonial Foodways program will assist with interpretation during events that explore and prepare the common historical dishes from the region.

Volunteers may also have the chance to participate in National Colonial Farm’s events as costumed interpreters to help demonstrate 18th century farming.

No previous experience is required.

For more information, those interested are asked to contact National Colonial Farm’s volunteer coordinator, Casey Lowe, at volunteers@accokeek.org.

National Colonial Farm is at 3400 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek.
