Upper Marlboro has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Park Service to have signage added to the William Beanes grave site, a notable historic site located within the town.
The site of William Beanes’ grave is a part of the Star Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, and the interpretive sign will display information about the site and identify it as part of the trail, according to town officials.
William Beanes was a medical doctor living in Upper Marlboro in the mid- to late-18th century.
As part of the agreement with NPS, the town has committed to cleaning the sign and providing upkeep to the area as needed, according to town officials.
