Karen and Brandon Smith of Ashton announce the engagement of their son, Ryan Matthew Smith, to Heidi Marie McMillen, daughter of Bill and Pamela McMillen of Glen Burnie.

The bride-to-be is a Bowie High School graduate and received a bachelor’s degree in natural resources management from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a laboratory technician with the SAIC-Frederick Genotyping and Sequencing Lab at Fort Detrick.

The prospective groom is a Sherwood High School graduate and received a bachelor’s degree in geography from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. He is currently employed by Henry Schein as a dental, medical and veterinary equipment technician.

A September 2013 wedding is planned.
