Frederick police are trying to identify several people involved in an exchange of gunshots Tuesday in the Lucas Village area near the city’s fairgrounds.

Around 5 p.m., witnesses reported that several people, wearing masks and riding in a white car, drove down Pennsylvania Avenue and fired shots in the direction of Hope Circle, police said.

The car then traveled toward East South Street, police said.

A man, described as a teenager about 6 feet tall with a thin build, wearing a windbreaker jacket, fired shots at the car from Hope Circle, police said.

Police are trying to identify both the people in the car and the man seen shooting from Hope Circle, said Detective Sgt. Joe Hayer of the Frederick Police Department.

Investigators aren’t sure how many people were in the car, he said.

Hayer declined to say how many shots police believe were fired in the exchange.

No one was injured in the incident, although police reported minor property damage.

Police asked that anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t already talked to investigators to contact Detective Jorge Garcia at 301-600-1247 or leave an anonymous tip at 301-600-TIPS, or email investigators at fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
