Look to NBC 4 consumer reporter Liz Crenshaw for this cold-weather advice.

Question: Is it bad to pour warm water on your frozen windshield to help it defrost?

Answer: We checked with automotive expert Pat Goss to get your answer. Pat says it’s a horrible idea to pour warm water on a frozen windshield. The shock of warm water on a cold windshield can cause it to crack. He says auto windshields are not able to withstand sudden temperature shifts. And never pour on the warm water.
