After winning the Class 3A state title, Gov. Thomas Johnson High School shot putter Tamara Ovejera put on a purple Clemson University shirt. She signed to compete for the Tigers next season.

Ice hockey

The Maryland Student Hockey League announced its All-State team, which included Oakdale’s Ryley Harper on the first team. He is Oakdale’s first All-State ice hockey player in program history.

Swimming

Frederick junior Mitchell Reynolds won his third 500-yard freestyle Class 3A/2A/1A state title in three years on Saturday at the University of Maryland, College Park. Reynolds, who also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly, was Frederick County’s only winner at Saturday’s state meet.

The Oakdale girls’ fourth-place finish was the county’s best team result. Three other county teams finished in the top 10: Walkersville’s girls (fifth), Frederick’s girls (sixth) and Oakdale’s boys (10th).

Wrestling

Despite failing to repeat as the Class 4A/3A state dual meet champion, Urbana has a chance to win the Class 4A/3A state tournament this weekend at the University of Maryland, College Park’s Cole Field House. The Hawks have nine wrestlers participating in the tournament, including 120-pounder Morgan Way, 138-pounder Nick Frank and heavyweight Nick Keller.
