Last Friday, Belmont Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday by hosting Read Across Belmont Day.

The magic of reading was evident throughout Belmont’s hallways, as many “V.I.P. readers” gathered to enthrall the students with tales old and new in the second annual guest reader event.

Christopher Barclay, president of the Board of Education, arrived with his personal, faded copy of “A Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. He reminisced with enthusiasm to second graders how his mother read this book to him in his childhood and how much he identified with the main character.

Other readers included Board of Education Vice President Philip Kauffman, school board members Michael Durso and Rebecca Smondrowski, student board member John Mannes, and Montgomery County Public School dignitaries Jim Fliakas, Anne Taylor and Sandi Wilson, as well as several parents.

Next week, the fun continues with Read Like a Warrior Day, which will feature Sherwood High School athletes, who will come read to Belmont Students.
