The Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church at 10123 Connecticut Ave., Kensington, is conducting a Green Film Fest during the season of Lent. There will be a variety of films that highlight the beauty and fragility of God’s creation.
One of the March 6 films is “Oceans,” a 2010 documentary that takes viewers from the ocean’s surface to its depths and onto exotic shores for a glimpse of the wondrous creatures who inhabit the waters. The other is “Some Place With A Mountain,” also a 2010 documentary. It tells the story of a small group of island atolls in the tropical Pacific that are disappearing because of sea rise.
There will be no films March 13, but March 20, one of the films will be “Happy Feet,” the 2006 animated look into the world of the emperor penguins who find their soulmates through song and the journey of one penguin who cannot sing but discovers he can tap dance instead. The other will be “Food, Inc.,” a 2008 documentary that examines corporate farming in the United States and how agribusiness affects the environment, animals and its employees.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. in Theater One, the Common Room, and Theater Two, the Social Hall. Popcorn and beverages will be provided. The films are free and open to all.
