A Tuesday night hit-and-run killed a Silver Spring woman who was trying to cross Connecticut Avenue, police said.

Marlyn Eres Ali, 53, of the 3800 block of Elby Street, was crossing from east to west at Everton Street on the south side of the intersection when a vehicle struck her in the southbound lanes, said Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a spokeswoman for Montgomery County police.

The driver fled the scene, police said, in a late ‘90s to early 2000’s Toyota Corolla. Police do not know the color of the vehicle and said investigators believe it may have front-end damage.

When county police officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Ali was in the grassy area between the curb lane and the service road, police said. Ali was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, where she died from her injuries that night, police said.

The circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision or the vehicle and its driver are asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
