A human skull was found Sunday in a wooded area of Laurel and Anne Arundel County police are now investigating the discovery to determine how the unknown person died.
Around noon Sunday, Anne Arundel police responded to Spring Road and Whiskey Bottom Road, near a nature preserve just outside of Prince George’s County, for the report of human remains found, they said.
According to police, a resident and his girlfriend were bird-watching and hiking in the area when they stumbled upon what appeared to be a human skull and called police.
Officers responded, along with medical personnel from the medical examiner’s office. The skull was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore and was confirmed to be human, police said.
A cause of death has not yet been determined, according to police.
Anne Arundel police are asking anyone with information to contact Det. Jack Hartzell at 410-222-3460.
