Carol Ann Hutchinson, 67, of Silver Spring, died on Feb. 12, 2013, at Casey House Hospice in Rockville.
Born in Long Branch, N.J., she was predeceased in 1997 by her husband, George.
She graduated from Caldwell College in Caldwell, N.J., and went on to complete her master’s degree from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J.
Carol was one of the first women hired as a computer programmer at Bell Labs. Over the course of her career, she was employed by MITRE, Sachs Freeman Associates, TASC, Northrop Grumman and AT&T in the varied fields of computer systems engineering, information systems design and development and actual coding.
She received Caldwell’s Veritas Award for distinguished alumni and was named the Systems Engineer of the Year by the Chesapeake Chapter of the International Council of Systems Engineering.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel Allen Hutchinson of Manassas, Va., John Thomas Hutchinson and wife his, Hunter, of Massachusetts and Andrew Moore Hutchinson and his wife, Adrienne, of Alexandria, Va.; her brothers, Richard and Thomas Occhiogrosso; and three grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will take place at 1 p.m. Feb. 20. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home in Silver Spring handled the arrangements.
