A Redland Middle School physical education teacher has been charged with trespassing after he was allegedly found sleeping in the school’s locker room Friday, Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks said.

Benjamin J. Morey, 35, of Hyacinth Court in Gaithersburg was charged Friday with trespassing on the school’s property, as well as fourth-degree burglary and resisting arrest, according to court records.

Redland Middle School’s website indicates that Morey is a physical and health education department teacher at the school on Muncaster Mill Road in Rockville.

Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig said the alarm went off at Redland Middle School around 2 a.m. Friday.

School security arrived and went into the school’s auxiliary gym, a smaller gym, and heard someone inside, Tofig said.

Security then called police who took over from there, he said. Starks said police arrived around 2:30 a.m.

Starks said in an email that Morey was allegedly found sleeping in the school’s locker room and that Morey did not have permission to be in the school that early.

School administration also responded to the incident, Starks said.

No students or other staff members were involved, Tofig said.

Tofig said Morey has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. No attorney information or court dates were listed in online court records as of Saturday morning.
