Organizers of the Mount Airy’s Main Street Heat Chili Cook Off are looking for cooks to participate in the annual event.
The cookoff, which is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, is organized by the Mount Airy Main Street Association and the 4 Count Lions Club. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 20 in downtown Mount Airy.
The contest includes three divisions: red chili, green chili and salsa. Cash prizes range from $50 to $1,000 for cooks who win first, second or third place in their division.
Organizers are also seeking volunteer judges, vendors and sponsors for the event.
The cook off includes entertainment, food, a beer garden, a sanctioned corn hole tournament, children’s games and activities and — of course — chili. Last year, 5,000 people attended the cookoff.
