Vocus reported net loss of $23.6 million for 2012

Vocus, a public relations marketing firm in Beltsville, reported that its net loss last year widened to $23.6 million from $14.6 million in 2011.

Its fourth-quarter net loss narrowed to $3.7 million from $11.8 million for the year-earlier period, according to its filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Revenues rose to $170.8 million last year from $114.9 million in 2011; fourth-quarter revenues rose to $47.1 million from $30.5 million in the prior-year quarter.

“While we are pleased with our financial performance for the quarter, we are also excited to report a record number of new customers, driven by robust demand for the Vocus Marketing Suite,” CEO Rick Rudman said in a statement. “With the recent launch of our new marketing suite, Vocus is the only solution today that integrates email, social, search and publicity into one intelligent platform, which we believe positions us well for over 20 percent billings growth in 2013.”

Tech company partners with UM on scholarships

The University of Maryland, College Park, and ManTech International, a technology services provider in Hanover, have announced a two-year partnership to provide four undergraduate cybersecurity scholarships annually. The scholarships will be part of the Maryland Cybersecurity Center Corporate Partners Program.

The cybersecurity center also is supported through the university’s College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences and the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

ManTech also is joining the Associate Partners Program at the Clark School’s Institute for Systems Research. The program also provides two scholarships per year to students majoring in systems engineering.

Women Business Owners to host forum

The Women Business Owners of Prince George’s County will present “In R.E.A.L. Time: The Art of Time Management” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Country Club at Woodmore, 12320 Pleasant Prospect, Mitchellville.

The event will feature “CBS MoneyWatch” and USA Today contributor Laura Vanderkam.
