The Laurel High School Performing Arts Department presented “Willy Wonka: the Musical”, Friday and Saturday evening in the auditorium.

The musical, based on based on the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl, and presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, tells the story of an eccentric candy maker and five children who find winning tickets in their candy allowing them a tour of the magical candy factory.

Over 80 students, serving as stage crew, cast and band, helped make the production a huge success, said producer Thomas Wright, chairman of the Performing Arts Dept.

“It went very well, and the kids really enjoyed it. We had a great crowd, and we were very pleased with the kids’ work ethic,” said Wright.

Wright said this was the first time the various aspects of the Performing Arts Department; choir, orchestra, theater, and band, have collaborated on a production.
