A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after an apparent hit-and-run incident in Temple Hills, Prince George’s County police said.

Police were called to the 4700 block of Wheeler Road at around 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and found the teenager, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a county police spokesman. The teenager was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, Copeland said.

The vehicle that struck the boy fled the scene, Copeland said. From witnesses, police learned the boy had been struck by a Crown Victoria sedan affiliated with the Bluebird taxi service while the teenager was apparently attempting to cross Wheeler Road, Copeland said.

Copeland said he did not know if the teen was using the crosswalk.

Police said they located the taxi cab at the Southern Avenue Metro Station and took the driver into custody. Charges are still being determined but are expected to be made against the driver, Copeland said.

“The thing we always ask is that pedestrians be mindful of vehicles and vehicles be mindful of pedestrians,” Copeland said.
