Four days after a North Carolina man was found dead in Hillcrest Heights, police have arrested a Greenbelt man and charged him with the slaying.
Brandon Anthony Battle, 26, of the 6200 block of Springhill Court is charged with first- and second-degree murder and use of a handgun to commit a felony crime, according to Prince George’s County police and online county court records.
Salaam Adams, 20, of Durham, N.C., was found dead around 7:25 a.m. Monday from a gunshot wound at Oxon Run Park in Hillcrest Heights, police said. Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a call for a “man down” and turned over the case to county police after ruling it a homicide.
Police said Adams died at the scene, near the Hillcrest Heights Community Center.
Cpl. Larry Johnson, a county police spokesman, said detectives are still investigating a motive for the shooting and said the reason behind Adams being in the area “remains under investigation.”
A phone number for Adams’ North Carolina residence could not be located.
Battle is set for a preliminary court hearing March 4 in Upper Marlboro, according to online court records, and he is being held without bond.
A defense attorney for Battle was not listed with the courts by Thursday, according to online court records.
