A Bowie man who won an online contest to craft a new flavor of wings for the Atlanta-based Wing Zone franchise brought his creation to life on Saturday.

Cooks at Bowie’s Wing Zone at 6131 High Bridge Rd. in Bowie were planning to whip up 600 “Mango Fire” wings for John Padukiewicz — the flavor’s creator. Padukiewicz won a contest on Facebook in December with his idea for the new flavor.

The wings were scheduled to be served at Padukiewicz’s private tailgate party at Allen Pond Park which he received as part of a prize package for having his flavor chosen as the chain’s next flavor.

“It definitely feels good. I’ve never been someone who’s won a lot of things in life,” said the 27-year-old who works as a firefighter in Capitol Heights. “It’s neat to have the support of friends.”

The tailgate party served more as a reunion as Padukiewicz invited family and friends to the event to hang out, he said.

It will probably be some time before Wing Zone customers are able to order the new flavor themselves, said Dan Corrigan, a spokesman for the chain.

The company plans to continue refining the flavor which means it may not be until the end of the year before “Mango Fire” joins the 17 other flavors on the chain’s menu, he said.
