Prince George’s County firefighters put out a fire in the attic of a Bowie group home.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Alicia Francis, firefighters responded to the scene late Saturday morning to find heavy smoke coming from the attic of an assisted living group home in the 4700 block of Rocky Spring Lane.

Francis said there were four occupants at the house at the time, but all were safe outside when firefighters arrived and the fire was extinguished within minutes.

“There were no injuries, thank goodness,” Francis said.

Francis said the group home suffered approximately $75,000 in damages from the fire and is currently uninhabitable.

Temporary housing has been found for the residents, Francis said.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time, but it looks accidental,” Francis said.
