Prince George’s sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 21-year-old in connection to a 2012 collision in College Park that killed a 40-year-old Chillum man.

Michael O’Connor was arrested in the 5100 block of Iroquois Street in College Park on vehicular manslaughter charges, according to sheriff’s deputies.

On June 24, 2012, O’Connor is believed to have been speeding and under the influence of alcohol when he struck the vehicle of Bernard Coatley, Jr., according to police.

At the time of the incident, police said Coatley allegedly failed to yield to the right-of-way while making a left turn from Delaware Street onto U.S. Rote 1. Coatley was taken to an area hospital where he died soon after arrival, county police have said.

Police have also said there were two other people riding with O’Connor at the time of the crash, one of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as did O’Connor.

O’Conner is being held in the county’s department of corrections and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and speeding, according to sheriff’s deputies.

A defense attorney for O’Connor was not listed with the courts by Friday, according to online Prince George’s County court records.

Residence phone numbers for O’Connor and Coatley were not located.
