Clarksburg High School senior cross country-track & field runner Will Bertrand, the 2012 Gazette Runner of the Year, has committed to Princeton (N.J.) University, choosing the Ivy League school instead of his other top choices of Carengie Mellon University (Pa.) and Brown University (R.I.).
“I visited the school over the summer and I really liked the campus and their running program is getting pretty good,” Bertrand said. “I also like their computer science department so it was a good fit.”
Bertrand switched from soccer to cross country this fall and finished with the 4A West Region and 4A state championships to earn Runner of the Year honors. He just grabbed first place in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run at the Montgomery County Indoor track meet this week.
