My kudos to The Gazette for its outstanding coverage of local high school ice hockey in Frederick County.
I enjoyed the coverage of the Middletown versus Walkersville game. Colin Stevens’ article was superb (“Middletown hangs on to beat Walkersville” The Gazette, Jan. 11).
We look forward to all of the ice hockey coverage no matter what high school it is about. Ice hockey is a tight-knit community, where all the players and parents know each other no matter what town we live in or what school our hockey players attend.
The majority of high school aged hockey players often play for multiple teams.
For example, my son, Ryan, and his friend are members of both the Middletown Knights Hockey Team (MSHL), as well as the Hagerstown Bulldogs Midget/U16 travel team (CBHL). The Chesapeake Bay Hockey League has teams throughout Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Other Middletown Knights players are also members of Team Maryland, The Frederick Freeze, as well as in-house teams at Skate Frederick.
Your newspaper is the only source of hockey news in Frederick and other counties, and we hockey families greatly appreciate it.
As you know, Middletown is consumed with football and rightfully so. But, many think that ice hockey is also a top-notch sport and support it 110 percent. In Middletown and the surrounding communities, The Gazette is “the voice of ice hockey”.
Your paper has found its niche in sports. Keep up the ice hockey coverage. We enjoy your varied coverage and the way The Gazette takes a slant on hockey that is truly community based like the excellent articles on both the guys and gals!
