Friendly High senior named PGCPS “Student of the Week” -- Gazette.Net

Jasmine Hawkins, a senior at Fort Washington’s Friendly High School, was named Prince George’s County Public School’s “Student of the Week” for the week beginning Jan. 14.

Hawkins has a GPA of 3.83 and past and current courses include AP Calculus, AP English Literature, AP Psychology, AP World History, AP English Language, Honors Biology and Honors English 10, according to a school system release.

Her extracurricular activities include serving as president of her school’s Anime Club, vice president of her school’s Book Club and participating in Mock Trial, Broadcasting Team, National Honor Society, Tennis Team and serving as an animal care aide at Clearwater Nature Center, according to the release.

She has also been a Girl Scout for 13 years, the release states, and through scouting, has volunteered at numerous organizations, worked as an overnight camp counselor, met one of her role models — Hilary Clinton — and travelled to Japan, according to the release.

The release states her future plans are to apply to University of Maryland, College Park; the University of Maryland-Baltimore County; Spelman College; George Washington Univeristy, American University and Boston University. She plans to study either political science or international business for her undergraduate studies, and then attend law school, according to the release.
