Laurel resident Elizabeth Ness has been elected president of the University of Maryland School of Nursing Alumni Council with a term running through June 30, 2014.

Ness received her Master’s degree in nursing from the university in 1993 and has been a resident of the Woodbridge Crossing development in Laurel since 1994, she said.

Ness currently works at the National Cancer Institute, where she coordinates education programs related to clinical trials for members of the research team, including doctors and nurses, Ness said.

Ness said she has served on the Alumni Council for four years as a member-at-large and as vice president.

“I am very proud to serve my fellow alumni in the nation’s oldest continuously active nursing alumni association,” she said.

Ness said she is pleased to have the opportunity to continue promoting UMSON’s mission of supporting students, faculty and alumni and advancing the school and its mission.

“My immediate goals will focus on reviewing and revising the Association’s bylaws and enhancing the recognition of alumni achievements,” Ness said.
