Plato’s Diner in College Park was awarded a proclamation by Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot on Jan. 11. Franchot honored the diner, which was established in 1994 at 7150 Baltimore Ave., for its years of service to the community, said Christine Feldmann, his spokeswoman.

The award is the first given to a Prince George’s County restaurant in 2013 and is part of an ongoing effort by Franchot to honor restaurants and eateries that have become central to their communities, Feldmann said.

“It has become a real landmark in the community,” she said. “It provides great service and food.”
