On Jan. 19 at 8:30 a.m., the Montgomery County Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will host its 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial breakfast at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center at 5701 Marinelli Road in North Bethesda.
The breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of service and create an imperative to live out his legacy today in our homes, our communities and our world.
Attendance at the breakfast usually surpasses 1,000 people and includes national, state, and local dignitaries. The keynote speaker this year is Marc Lamont Hill of Columbia University, an educator, journalist and political commentator.
Hill’s comments will fit the theme of this year’s breakfast, Moving Toward a Common Dream. During the breakfast, music will be provided by the Iota Upsilon Lambda Ensemble. Montgomery County citizens will be given awards for being of service to others.
The first award will be given to Warrick S. Hill, a retired educator and author who spent his life giving to students and visiting the bereaved and sick in the community.
The second award will be given to Theta Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, which has served the Montgomery County area continuously.
