Mattawoman holds family fitness night

Mattawoman Middle School held a family fitness night to promote a healthy community.

Health for the Holidays featured several local health and fitness business owners. Organizers wanted families to try different exercise activities, like Zumba or working out with personal trainers.

Among the businesses that participated were Tiger Do Jang, Southern Maryland Jujutsu, New Moon Bodyworks, Strong Fitness and Personal Training, AlterNatives Fitness, Trident Crossfit, Shakeology, Bode Shakes and the county’s parks and recreation services.

NRL Federal Credit Union announces scholarship winner

L. Deal of Leonardtown was named the winner of the Strikeout Scholarship from NRL Federal Credit Union.

Each semester, NRL Federal Credit Union awards a scholarship to a credit union member entering or attending the College of Southern Maryland.

NRL Federal Credit Union has teamed up with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Professional baseball team to offer the Strikeouts for Education program.

Each time the Blue Crabs pitched a strikeout this past season, NRLFCU contributed $5 to the scholarship fund.

New Kids on the Court at ANS

Archbishop Neale School’s volleyball team recently welcomed a new batch of players this year.

The varsity and junior varsity teams are coached by Coach Ann Le Barron. Through the sport, the students learned teamwork, according to a news release.

ANS offers several sports programs to its students, including basketball, soccer, softball and cheerleading.
