Area residents have donated more than 100 games to Hyattsville Elementary School in an effort to increase the amount of rainy-day games that students can play during recess.

President Bart Lawrence and Treasurer Christine Williams of the Hyattsville Parent Teacher Association led the effort. Lawrence said in an e-mail to the city’s community listserve that the amount of activities for students to do during in-class recess needed to be increased, and a donation drive was necessary so that the school does not rely solely on teachers and a small number of donations.

“It was great we got input from the school staff to let us know what they needed,” Lawrence said. “Then to be able to fairly easily turn around and get so much support for this was really great.”

The PTA has a wish list on Amazon.com that it wants residents to choose their donations from: www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/TESN0OW9M5RA
