An arrest has been made in the 2010 fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old that stemmed from a dispute at a pool party in Forestville.
Keith Whitley Haines, 21, of the 4900 block of 52nd Place in Edmonston, was arrested by Prince George’s police Monday. Police said they believe he is responsible for the murder of Edwin Yoanis Reyes, of the 9500 block of Tuckerman Street in Lanham.
Police said on Aug. 22, 2010, officers were called to a home on Parkland Drive for the report of a cutting. An investigation revealed that Haines and Reyes were both attending a pool party there and the two got into a fight, resulting in Haines allegedly stabbing Reyes multiple times, police said.
Police have charged Haines with second-degree murder and he is being held in the county’s department of corrections without bond.
Haines is also being charged with possession a weapon with the intent to injure, according to online county court records.
Online court records show Haines is currently awaiting trial for robbery and second-degree assault charges stemming from a June 1, 2012 incident.
According to the online court records, Haines was being held since June 10, 2012, but was released on bond July 20 — just over one month prior to the killing.
For the pool party incident, Haines has a preliminary court hearing set for Feb. 5, court records show.
A phone number for Haines’ residence could not be located.
John McKenna, Haines’ listed defense attorney for his prior charges, could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday morning.
