Baseball and softball

St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host a six-week baseball camp starting Jan. 6 with St. Mary’s head baseball coach Lew Jenkins directing the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are available for players in grades 1 to 12 and are limited to six players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning.

The cost is as low as $99 for six weeks with proceeds to benefit amateur baseball in St. Mary’s City.

The Southern Maryland Xplosion 16-U travel softball team is looking for players for the 2013 season. For more information, call manager James at 240-346-2543.

The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Players cannot turn 9 or 10 years of age by May 1, 2013, depending on the team.

The Charles County Spartans, a 12-U travel baseball tournament team, will hold tryouts through the winter for players in the Southern Maryland area.

Charles County Parks and Recreation is holding registration for its middle school basketball leagues

This program is open to all students in sixth- to eighth-grades for the 2012-2013 school year. Players can only play at the middle school community center that they currently attend. Students attending private school must play for the center in their appropriate school zone.

The cost is $75 if registered by Feb. 16 and $90 after that date. The registration deadline is March 2.

Unique Sports Academy in Waldorf is taking registrations for its new season. The recreational gymnastics program offers a variety of classes for children ages 18 months to 18.

Gretton Goalkeeping will hold weekly outdoor and indoor soccer training sessions for all ages and skill levels.

Indoor sessions will be held at the Waldorf Sport & Health Club through the week of Feb. 25.

The Pisgah Youth Soccer Association, which serves Pisgah, Ironsides, Marbury and Nanjemoy, is holding open online registration for the spring season for children 4 to 18.

The cost is $80, which covers a child’s uniform and all county fees. Registration can be done online at via PayPal, by cash or check. For those who pay by cash or check, payment is due by the first scheduled practice of the season.

Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club will have its swim team session two registration and assessment dates from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4, 7 and 8 at the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center’s aquatics center at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City.

The club will also hold registrations for lessons and pre-team from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Jan. 16 and 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at the same location. Lessons and pre-team classes will be held Jan. 21 to Feb. 13.
