Two county baseball players make preseason All-State team

The Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches recently announced its 2013 Preseason All-State team and it includes Catoctin’s Alex Kennedy and Walkersville’s Brady Policelli, who batted .292 with 13 runs batted in and six doubles a year ago. Policelli was named to the Maryland Futures squad and the Big 26 Baseball Classic this past summer.

Oakdale’s Heine wins 3-point contest

Oakdale’s Kevin Heine began this past weekend’s Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury, Md., on the right foot. He topped a field of eight in the 3-point contest, hitting 17 in the first round and 16 in the second to come away with a “huge trophy,” said Oakdale coach Terry Connolly.

Unfortunately for Oakdale, that didn’t seem to carry over. The Bears lost both games, their first two of the season, to Boys Latin and Pocomoke despite outstanding play from Zach Thomas, who scored 37 in the loss to Pocomoke.
