The Mount Rainier Youth and Recreation Council is partnering with Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier to sign up 10 city residents to join a martial arts course that will be offered through February.
Participating adults and children will learn the movements associated with Tai Chi Chun, a Chinese martial art that emphasizes self control and relaxation. Tyrese Robinson, the head of the city’s Youth and Recreation Council, said the classes will hopefully bring a lot of relaxation to those who join.
“The benefits of having the peaceful movements of Tai Chi and the meditation that comes with it will be a perfect merger for youth and adults alike,” she said.
Residents can register early and pay $40 for the entire course. Non-residents can register for $56. City residents and non-residents can also drop in to individual classes for a fee of $7.
Robinson said her goal is to register at least 10 city residents before classes start.
The classes will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. every Thursday and start Jan. 10 and end on Feb 28.
