Instructors with the Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood will hold two “Creative Kids Day” events in January, where children from the area will learn about different cultures and conduct four art projects each day.
On Jan. 15, instructors will hold an Asian-themed event that will feature the retelling of Tikki Tikki Tembo, a 1968 story set in ancient China, and arts projects including making a Chinese dragon puppet. On Jan. 18, children will participate in an African-themed event and will participate in art projects that include making an African mask and creating an African drum out of water bottles. Each event will last from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“It will be extremely fun,” said Malika Bryant, gallery assistant and instructor for the exchange. “I think I enjoy it more than they do.”
Advanced registration for each event is required and is $20 per child and $24 for children who do not reside in Prince George’s or Montgomery counties. The Brentwood Arts Exchange is located 3901 Rhode Island Ave. in Brentwood.
