Mike Sesma, vice president of the Gaithersburg City Council, has been elected to represent the city on the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities. The organization promotes cities as centers of governance, leadership and opportunity.

In a statement, Sesma said he is happy to represent Gaithersburg, and other Maryland cities, on the board.

Ill work hard with other elected officials and the [National League of Cities] leadership to advance advocacy at the federal and state level for the priorities that are important in making American cities and towns better, he said.

Sesma has served on the national organizations energy and environment committee since 2007 and became its chair in 2012. He will serve a two-year term on the Board of Directors, which consists of 19 members of local government from cities across the country.
