Pianist Brian Ganz will offer a free mini-recital of his all-Chopin concert at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, 6125 Montrose Road, Rockville, at 2 p.m. on Jan. 5. The recital will be a preview of Ganz’s next all-Chopin recital at the Strathmore Music Center on Jan. 19. At the preview in the JCC’s Kreeger Theater, Ganz will play and discuss a few pieces from the Strathmore program, take some Chopin requests, answer questions and share details about the Chopin Project. The complete “Extreme Chopin” program on Jan. 19, will explore the theme of “Small Worlds” and include Frédéric Chopin's “5 Mazurkas, Op. 7;” “Trois Ecossaises, Op. 72, No. 3;” “Lento con Gran Espressione in C-sharp minor;” “Presto con Leggerezza in A-flat major;” “Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23;” “Ballade No. 3 in A-flat major, Op. 47;” and the “24 Préludes, Op. 28.” For more information about the mini-recital, contact 301-348-3779 or jgetz@jccgw.org.
