A Hughesville family has been displaced after an accidental fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to their two-story house in the 6700 block of Carrico Mill Road in Hughesville, the Maryland State Fire Marshal reported.

Discovered by the family at 10:29 p.m., the fire began in a second-floor bedroom and quickly spread. No one was hurt in the blaze.

About 30 firefighters from volunteer departments in Hughesville, Mechanicsville, Benedict, Waldorf and La Plata responded. It took them about five minutes to bring the flames under control.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
