What a thrill to read your editorial in favor of repealing the death penalty in Maryland. As a Marylander and a Quaker, I find the idea that the state of Maryland has permission to take a human life abhorrent and have been pleased that our state has been cautious and careful with this question.
I believe we do not have the right to take a human life. The number of errors made in assigning the death penalty nationwide is shameful. I have heard from numerous families of murder victims that the death penalty does not relieve the pain of their loss. I feel state Sen. Lisa Gladden and Del. Samuel Rosenberg are on the right track by adding the savings in court costs from repeal to support families affected. Please contact your state legislators and let them know it is time for repeal.
