Veronica Charlotte Johnson Sandidge, 64, of Forestville died Dec. 4, 2012.
Born March 21, 1948 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Charles and the late Estelle Johnson. She was the youngest of two children. Eventually, she and her family moved to Charles County, where she graduated from Archbishop Neale School in La Plata.
She married Russell P. Sandidge and raised three children, Annunciata, Renee and Renard. She was a stay-at-home mom who volunteered with Meals on Wheels and in hospital newborn nurseries. She also adopted a child in Africa by donating to a charity.
Once she raised her family, she went back to school and graduated from Chesapeake Business School, where she also was a member of the national honor society, Alpha Beta Kappa. She retired after a 22-year career with the Internal Revenue Service and the federal General Accounting Office. She earned an associate degree in paralegal studies from Prince George’s Community College. During her time with GAO, she received numerous awards and recognitions for her work, including working directly with the Secretary of the Senate on special projects. She also was a licensed real estate agent with Long and Foster and sold Mary Kay and Avon products. She volunteered on many political campaigns.
Mrs. Sandidge loved helping others, spending time with her family, being with dear friends and traveling.
She was a devoted and loyal attendee of Mount Calvary Catholic Church, where she enjoyed fellowship. She had a warm and graceful smile and a true Christian spirit, and was a bridge over troubled waters for many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell P. Sandidge.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her sister; grandchildren, Christiaan, Yanee and James Sandidge, Kwavion Ford and Trinard and Damien Towles; great-grandson, Christiaan D. Sandidge; godson, Justin Adams; nieces, Anastasia Fabia Adams, Nicollette Yates-Keys and Niquisha Keys; nephew, Bryant Keys; sisters-in-law, Deloris Smith, Ruby Burke, Linda Brown, Phyllis Margret Anderson, Beverly Ann Booker and Magdalen Moton; brothers-in-law, Martin Otis and Lawrence Sandidge; special friend, Arthur Grayson; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Dec. 11 at Thornton Funeral Home, Indian Head. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 12 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Indian Head. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont.
