State police homicide investigators continue to search for leads in the slaying of a Frederick man whose body was found in the trunk of his car near Gaithersburg last week.

The investigation into the death of John P. Ryan, 37, remains active, but police were not releasing any new information, Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said Tuesday.

Ryan’s body was found Dec. 3 in the trunk of his 2007 Lexus in a parking lot in Derwood, near Gaithersburg. The trunk also contained an undisclosed amount of cash and about one pound of marijuana, police said.

Shipley declined to release a cause of death in the case.

But Bruce Goldfarb, a spokesman for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, said Ryan died from two gunshot wounds to the head.

The case was being classified as a homicide, Goldfarb said.

Ryan’s wife had reported him missing to the Frederick Police Department on Nov. 29, telling officers she hadn’t seen him since Nov. 27. She said he had left the house before she woke up on Nov. 28.

Ryan worked in the property-maintenance business, traveling throughout the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., region for his work, according to police.

Frederick police had asked state police to help in the search for Ryan.

The search also involved members of the Frederick County Narcotics Task Force, which includes members of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, state police, FBI and Department of Homeland Security.

Anyone with information about Ryan’s disappearance or death may contact state police Cpl. Jonathan Martin or Sgt. Richard Bachtell at 301-644-4151. Callers can remain anonymous.
