Maryland lawmakers want to see what federal action is taken regarding the so-called “fiscal cliff” before deciding whether to pursue major financial initiatives such as wind power or a gas-tax hike in the forthcoming General Assembly session, legislative leaders said Thursday.

House Speaker Michael E. Busch (D-Dist. 30) of Annapolis and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Dist. 27) of Chesapeake Beach met with Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) for just under an hour Thursday to discuss legislative goals.

“We’re waiting to see what takes place [in Washington, D.C.] on Jan. 1,” Busch said after the meeting. “We don’t come in until the ninth of January, and we have 90 days to work on these initiatives.”
