Visit Santa at local Damascus businesses -- Gazette.Net

The Damascus Volunteer Fire Department will be switching up their holiday routine by bringing the community to Santa this winter.

The group had organized Santa’s firetruck rides through local neighborhoods since the 1970s through the Community Outreach and Community Service program. However, due to area growth and pressure on resources, the department will be halting this year’s neighborhood rides in favor of stationing Santa at area stores.

Santa will appear from 6 to 8 p.m. with some fire equipment to meet with children for pictures and to hand out candy canes and fire safety educational materials.

Come to the Safeway located at 9807 Main Street in Damascus on Nov. 10 and 11 or to the Weis located at 26075 Ridge Road in Damascus on Nov. 12 and 13 to catch a glimpse.

Bring nonperishable canned or boxed foods in a paper or plastic bag — no glass — or an unwrapped toy for holiday delivery to an area family in need.

Contact the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Inc., 26334 Ridge Road, Damascus, on their non-emergency line, 301-253-3913, with any questions.
