A truck that caught fire on Democracy Boulevard near Walter Johnson High School Monday caused significant traffic delays in Bethesda, according to police and fire officials.
Fire rescue officials were called to the 6500 block of Democracy Boulevard at 10:30 a.m. for the report of a dump truck on fire, said Beth Anne Nesselt, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman. Firefighters arrived to find a large dump truck with its engine compartment on fire, she added.
Firefighters were on scene until about 11 a.m., when the fire was extinguished. Democracy Boulevard was temporarily shut down during the fire, Nesselt said. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, she said.
“When we cleared the scene police were managing traffic pending the arrival of a tow truck,” Nesselt said.
Police cleared the scene and traffic was returned to normal by 11:10 a.m., said Angela Cruz, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman.
